With the Moda show just over two weeks away, our designers are hard at work putting the finishing touches to the new collection of occasionwear hats and fascinators.
We are please to now reveal that the new collection is titled:
Fabulous Fifties Fascinations
This stunning new collection sees never-seen before styles inspired by swing skirts, rock & roll and Hollywood glamour of the 1950’s.
Here’s Head Designer Kelly’s thoughts on the new collection:
“The theme for the collection will focus on the 1950’s trend for elegant lady-like style. Focusing on the quirky yet feminine elements of the fashions of the fifties, and the way in which women were allowed to express themselves with frivolous fashion accessories and swing skirts. In post war Britain, fashion brought a resurgence of glamour and a move away from the austerity of utility wear. Peter Pan collars, narrow waists and poodle skirts with heals, partnered with smart accessory details such as gloves and scarves were iconic of fifties style.
In direct contrast to the square shoulders, pencil skirts and hourglass shape of early fifties, the later trends saw the move towards full skirts, in vibrant patterns, supported by petticoats. This allowed for greater movement when Rock and Roll was at its height. However, the styles that remain most iconic of this era are the sophisticated designs of Christian Dior and Coco Chanel. With their designs the emphasis remained on tailored, lady-like couture, highlighted by soft feminine touches. From the onset, the look was quite structured, yet the use of rounded shaped shoulders and loose long sleeves were created for a more universal appeal.
Accessories were a compulsory feature, and the importance of glamour allowed women to wear fur with their pearls. Hats were worn to every occasion, with a hat for shopping, church and lunch of a different style. The designer influences and frivolity of the fifties offer limitless glamorous, feminine touches that are both commercial and contemporary. With vintage brooch details, classic pleated forms and feather embellishments, the 2013 designs exude elegance and sophistication, without losing the creative flare that is synonymous with the Boutique Collection.”
All the new styles, as well as popular existing styles, will be on display at the Moda show 12 – 14 August 2012. We hope to see you there.
