Headdresses at London Fashion Weekend 2013

Monday, March 11th, 2013

Today’s blog is from Louise who shares her reflections on the trends from the recent London Fashion Weekend catwalk show.

I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to take some photos from the photographer’s pit at London Fashion Weekend on 23rd February. It was a great chance to see current catwalk trends which will have an influence on bridal styles this season.

There were four runs; Graphic Art, Urban Lifestyle, Eastern Promise and Dolls House. Each run focused on a different trend, which as we all know will not just be reflected in our wardrobes, but also in bridal trends and wider popular culture.

The Eastern Promise and Dolls House trends incorporated some beautiful headdresses, which included key features that our designers have already included in the current Richard Designs bridal collection. The draping crystals and pearls that come over the forehead are a key upcoming trend in bridal this season.

Our hair jewellery is an easy way to incorporate this trend, and works well with delicate clear crystal and lustrous pearls.

Floral decoration was abundant, with large colourful silk flowers moulded into stunning headdresses. To bring this trend to bridal, try ivory flowers in your hair for your wedding, with a touch of silver crystal or pearl.

This headdress was one of my favourites, with a regal display of flowers, and draping beads, all framed with a shimmering gold fringe.

This style incorporates several of bridal’s most important current trends. There is a subtle lace border for the flowers and backdrop for the draping pearls, and the flowers also hold hidden treasures, with crystals and brooches added in around the headdress. This highlights how important vintage brooch detailing still is, and this is also true in bridal.

Statement feather headdresses were featured in the Dolls House run, adding movement and fluidity to the look. Stunning soft feathers can be incorporated into a bridal look for a contemporary, yet vintage feel.

This flower fascinator with birdcage veil is a beautiful statement. Our most popular fascinator in the current collection, F224, takes this striking catwalk looks and gives it a sophisticated, demure bridal edge.

And finally, we can see that bows are still important this season. This stunning dress adorned with satin ribbon bows was a true statement that bows are still big. To incorporate bows into your bridal outfit, try our fun, short, bow wedding veil.

I hope that you have enjoyed looking at the photos from London Fashion Weekend, I certainly had fun taking them!

Bestselling Hats & Fascinators at Moda August 2012

Tuesday, August 21st, 2012

Today we share with you the top selling hats & fascinators from our recent Moda show. All of the new designs proved popular, with the new colour palette perfectly complementing the occasion wear gowns available in the Moda Women show.

Our new collection is inspired by the 1950s era of swing skirts and rock ‘n roll. New designs include fun design elements such as twists as well as vintage brooch details, classic pleated forms and feather embellishments.

The bestselling hats included this BM203H, with sinamay twists, feathers and a sweeping brim. This hat is perfect for those who don’t want a large brim hat, but still want to make a statement!

BM203H Beeswax Hat

The BM204H was very popular, and you can see why. The glamorous crystal brooch and handmade flowers are finished off with a large feather spine for a sophisticated look.

BM204H Pale Turquoise Hat

BM205H includes soft curls of sinamay, delicate handmade flowers and our most popular shaped hat, resulting in a stunning creation.

BM205H Navy Hat

FQ210 is a fun, quirky fascinator with a small sinamay disc and delicate curls peeping out from underneath.

FQ210 Turqoise Fascinator

FQ206 is our favourite – a stunning sweeping disc with handmade flowers and large feather spine, this is the fascinator equivalent of the BM204H above!

FQ206 Grey & Gold fascinator

FQ205’s unique shape and added height proved popular with buyers, too!

FQ205 Pink Fascinator

New Season Trends for Boutique Collection Spring Summer 2013

Friday, July 27th, 2012

With the Moda show just over two weeks away, our designers are hard at work putting the finishing touches to the new collection of occasionwear hats and fascinators.

We are please to now reveal that the new collection is titled:

Fabulous Fifties Fascinations

This stunning new collection sees never-seen before styles inspired by swing skirts, rock & roll and Hollywood glamour of the 1950’s.

1950s-Fashion-01Image

Here’s Head Designer Kelly’s thoughts on the new collection:

“The theme for the collection will focus on the 1950’s trend for elegant lady-like style. Focusing on the quirky yet feminine elements of the fashions of the fifties, and the way in which women were allowed to express themselves with frivolous fashion accessories and swing skirts. In post war Britain, fashion brought a resurgence of glamour and a move away from the austerity of utility wear. Peter Pan collars, narrow waists and poodle skirts with heals, partnered with smart accessory details such as gloves and scarves were iconic of fifties style.

In direct contrast to the square shoulders, pencil skirts and hourglass shape of early fifties, the later trends saw the move towards full skirts, in vibrant patterns, supported by petticoats. This allowed for greater movement when Rock and Roll was at its height. However, the styles that remain most iconic of this era are the sophisticated designs of Christian Dior and Coco Chanel. With their designs the emphasis remained on tailored, lady-like couture, highlighted by soft feminine touches. From the onset, the look was quite structured, yet the use of rounded shaped shoulders and loose long sleeves were created for a more universal appeal.

Accessories were a compulsory feature, and the importance of glamour allowed women to wear fur with their pearls. Hats were worn to every occasion, with a hat for shopping, church and lunch of a different style. The designer influences and frivolity of the fifties offer limitless glamorous, feminine touches that are both commercial and contemporary. With vintage brooch details, classic pleated forms and feather embellishments, the 2013 designs exude elegance and sophistication, without losing the creative flare that is synonymous with the Boutique Collection.”

All the new styles, as well as popular existing styles, will be on display at the Moda show 12 – 14 August 2012. We hope to see you there.

Please note, the Moda show is a trade event. How to buy if you are not a trade customer.
