How to display your fascinators

We understand how challenging it can be to display accessories like tiaras, jewellery and veils in your shop. With years of experience at exhibitions and shows, we have learnt a few things about letting the accessories do the talking and grab the attention of your customers.

Customers hats fascinators

Fascinators are notoriously difficult to display well as they are designed to look their best being worn, not placed on a shelf. The customer needs to imagine themselves wearing the hair piece when they look at it, and this can be difficult with the more elaborate styles. Don’t fret though, it is possible to create a beautiful display that not only draws customers in to your shop, but also leads to a sale.

Here are a few hints, tips and suggestions for displaying your fascinators:

As mentioned in the previous two blogs about shop window displays (see here and here), lighting is really important when displaying products in your shop. Fascinators are often embellished with crystals which always look their best under strong, fresh lighting. The vivid colours of the feathers and fabrics also benefit from good lighting. It softens the feathers and adds dimension to the whole fascinator as the light shines through the feathers.

Displaying fascinators on glass shelves helps with this illusion of dimension as it draws the eye to the product, avoiding distractions.

Try to find some way of lifting the fascinators to eye level for more interest. Enabling the customer to see the fascinator’s details and shape is better than the fascinators looking like a bunch of feathers and not much else! This can be achieved by using acrylic stands, head shapes or shelves of varying heights.

If space is limited, pick a few of your bestselling fascinators and put these in a prominent position so that your customer can see at least a few in detail and then you can show them the rest once their interest has been sparked.

Show off your buying skills! Match your fascinators with your outfits to give your customers a clear view of the whole look you can offer them. Placing the coordinating fascinator on each mannequin allows the customer to imagine themselves in the entire outfit.

Most importantly, encourage the customer to try the fascinator on. This is the most effective way to sell your fascinators, and in fact any of your accessories. Encouraging them to try a fascinator on, showing them how to wear it, and coordinating accessories with the outfit will almost always result in a sale. The customer can see the detail and craftsmanship of the fascinator, they can see the height and shape it adds to their look, and they will feel pampered and looked after all at the same time.

  1. I played around with the lighting at our store and it makes a big difference on how our products look on display. Thanks for the tips. Now I will try some color lighting so see what happens

  2. Great advice – thank you. Without real, human, breathing models I always find it really difficult to show the wedding fascinators off to their best so at all the shows I do I always have beautiful girls wearing them and showing people how to fix them which is imperative since so many people don’t know.
