Wedding Accessory Trends 2011

A Wedding in Wonderland

There are two presiding themes for the Richard Designs Bridal Collection for 2011 The influence of popular culture within bridal trends cannot be underestimated with many Brides taking direct influence from classic, reworked films such as ‘Alice in Wonderland’. Our first theme ‘A Wedding in Wonderland’ looks at the quirky, kitsch, yet tastefully vintage attributes of the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party. Spotty fabrics are mixed with fine lace linens along with an assortment of pastel hues and silver and gilt edgings, to create vintage chic with a touch of fun! Bows and oversized flowers are predominant features, with quirky fascinators and unique headdresses incorporating fabric embellishments.

Tiaras including lace-like doily filigrees and fanciful crotchet flower details, take on the form of Alice bands and decorative side details.

Veils incorporate intensely beaded and crystal clustered edges and decorative hanging pear drops.

Fish Tail Fantasies & Pearly Persuasions

The second theme emphasises the textural qualities of silk satin and glistening shimmery treasures of the sea. ‘Fish Tail Fantasies and Pearly Persuasions’ comprises of freshwater pearls, and organic shaped crystals. Loosely woven mesh fabrics, with shimmery finishes and large glistening stones encased in filigree clamshells, are key features of the collection.

Sea-inspired wave shaped embroidery on the veils and glistening sparkles, like the surface of the water, inspire this collection.

Clustered bands of clear crystal, freshwater pearl and irregular shaped silver components form the tiaras, along with delicate woven molecular fabrics wrapping larger stones.

The shimmery sequinned fabrics used in the millinery bridal designs are suggestive of the scales of the mermaids tail, while frothy veiling creates volume for the more dramatic headpieces.
